Randolph AFB, Fort Sam Houston, Lackland AFB became Joint Base San Antonio (jbsa) in October of 2010.

The "Showplace of the Air Force," Randolph Air Force Base takes pride in producing some of the world's finest instructor pilots, navigators and student pilots for the U.S. Air Force, Navy and international air forces.

Just northeast of San Antonio, Randolph is one of the few bases that perform instructor pilot training. Randolph AFB was dedicated in 1930 and named in honor of William Millican Randolph, a native of Austin who earned a remarkable record and contributed immeasurably to the progress of aviation before his death in a plane crash in 1928. The Randolph Independent School District runs an elementary, secondary and high school on base. Health care is provided by an outpatient clinic, with dental care for active duty, and additional base hospitals in San Antonio.

The cultural diversity of San Antonio offers something for everyone, with attractions such as the Alamo, the Rivercenter Mall, Imax Theater, Spanish Colonial Missions, amusement parks and professional basketball. Base recreation includes fitness centers; bowling; arts and crafts shop; pools; golf; stables; skeet range; clubs; tennis; theater; youth center; and a lake recreation area.
