Lackland AFB, Randolph AFB, and Fort Sam Houston became Joint Base San Antonio (jbsa) in October of 2010.

The "Gateway to the Air Force," Lackland provides joint service training for the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marine. It is the most culturally diverse multilingual training base due to the presence of the Defense Language Institute as well as the Inter-American Air Force.

The base offers diverse work also includes the fields of cryptographic equipment maintenance, security and law enforcement, military working dog handler, combat arms, recruiting, supply, transportation, and multiple other services. Lackland is named after Brig. Gen. Frank Lackland, who served in the National Guard, District of Columbia.
