In the "Cradle of Georgia" in Savannah, Hunter Army Airfield is a sub-installation of Fort Stewart and is regarded as the Army's premier projection platform featuring an 11,375-foot runway that can accommodate any aircraft.

The Army acquired Hunter Field, as it was known in 1967, and established the U.S. Army Flight Training Center when the Air Force closed the facility. Child care and home day care are available, and medical needs are served by an outpatient clinic with additional care at nearby Fort Stewart. Base children are provided transportation to public schools in Savannah, with private school options available.
