Ever reheated leftovers in the microwave? Flown in a plane? Searched for schools of fish with a computer? None of those things would be possible without Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, Mass. Hanscom was one of the first test sites for an experimental Microwave Early Warning Radar system through a joint experiment by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. Since 1945, the base has served as the Air Force's center for development and acquisition of electronic systems, a task that evolved into the base's mission. Now Hanscom manages the use and implementation of electronic command and control systems, which gather and analyze information on potentially hostile forces.

The Lincoln and Bedford school systems run off-base schools.

Health care is available at the base clinic. Inpatient, surgical and emergency care is available at Emerson Hospital, Beth Israel Hospital, Caritas Brighton Marine USFHP and Lahey Clinic, all within 10 miles of the base.

Recreation options on base include a golf course; bowling lanes; tennis courts; arts and crafts center; recreation and youth centers; pools; sports fields; Fourth Cliff Seaside Recreation Area and FamCamp. Hanscom is 12 miles northwest of Boston, "the Cradle of Liberty" and a major metropolitan city that offers a multitude of cultural and historical sites as well as teams in all major professional sports. Two other cities brimming with Revolutionary War history, Lexington and Concord, also are nearby.

As The Premier Military Relocation Network we hope you will find the information within our website comprehensive and that PCS America will be your one-stop resource for all your Hanscom AFB PCS'ing needs.
