Goodfellow AFB is a joint service base and Train world-class Firefighting and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance warriors. Over 9,000 students a year from all services. At any given time, we have over 5,000 Military, 800 Civil Service, and 12,000 family members on the installation.

The base traces its history to the days before the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, but is named after 1st Lt. John J. Goodfellow Jr., who in 1918 was killed in an air mission behind enemy lines. Today, the installation delivers top training in cryptologic and general intelligence fields for all branches and certain Allied countries. In support of the U.S. Atomic Energy Detection System, the base also provides fire protection and special instruments training. Children attend local schools in San Angelo. A primary care, dental and optometry clinic serve health-care needs, with additional care at the Wilford Hall Medical Center on Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

The Services Division offers a Youth Center, an enlarged Child Development Center, the Goodfellow Club serving all ranks for dining with two lounges, the Armadillo Lounge for enlisted members and the Lone Star Lounge for officers. Additional recreation includes two gyms, four tennis courts, a recreational camp and various outdoor activities.
