Louisiana's lone Army base boasts the Joint Readiness Training Center, the branch's premier training center for light infantry and special operations units. The fort's history dates from 1941, when thousands of soldiers learned the basics of combat at the onset of World War II. Named in honor of the Right Rev. Leonidas Polk, the first Episcopal Bishop of the Diocese of Louisiana, the fort prides itself in adapting to service during the past and for future U.S. military crises.



Fort Polk, eight miles south of Leesville. The Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital provides health care, with dental and youth/child services.



A sportsman's paradise, Louisiana offers unsurpassed fishing, camping and other outdoor opportunities, including nearby Toledo Bend Recreation Site, the largest man-made reservoir in the South. Other recreational opportunities include auto skills center, arts and crafts center, music and theaters, bowling, golf, ITT office, fitness centers, gyms, pools, athletic fields, softball fields, tennis and a shooting range.
