Louisiana's lone Army base boasts the Joint Readiness Training Center, the branch's premier training center for light infantry and special operations units. The fort's history dates from 1941, when thousands of soldiers learned the basics of combat at the onset of World War II. Named in honor of the Right Rev. Leonidas Polk, the first Episcopal Bishop of the Diocese of Louisiana, the fort prides itself in adapting to service during the past and for future U.S. military crises.
